Whelve

Whelve (2022) is acrylic and charcoal on canvas 18″ x 24″.

Whelve is a verb meaning “to bury something deep; to hide”. This word captures the emotion and expression of the artwork. The painting is interesting similar to its name from the old English meaning to turn upside down (as a dish or vessel) to cover something.

Bliss

Bliss (2021) is textured acrylic, oil pastel and charcoal on canvas 34″ x 48″.

This was my last painting of the year 2021. Endless hours were spent over several months. Improving myself and my art amounts to something beautiful like this.

Byzantium

Byzantium (2021) is acrylic paint and silver leaf on 20″ x 24″ canvas. It is part of the Mellifluous series (2021) which also includes: Passion, Smolder, Yellow nude and Blue nude.

This selection is an abstract depiction of a woman sitting in a relaxed position. Precise color placement with a palette knife shapes the figure and contrasts the grey background. Silver leaf is used to highlight specific points of her figure and encompasses the edges of the canvas.

Byzantium is a type of purple color. In its meaning, purple is associated with mystery, feminine qualities, magic and royalty.

Confidence

Confidence (2021) acrylic paint, charcoal, and oil pastel on 24″ x 30″ cotton canvas

The abstracted female form is captured; her movement is evident in the shapes and line work, as if dancing, utterly confident in herself. Bright yellows laid onto the textured canvas with a palette knife to invoke happiness, create depth, and compliment the deep red shadows.

One of my favorite pieces I’ve made!
I recently compared my work from earlier this year to recent paintings and have seen so much improvement in myself as an artist. Pursuing art as my career enabled me to paint almost every day and constantly train my eye to really see as an artist.
I still struggle with comparing myself to others and of course be my own worst critique – but I know as much as this frustrates me, it helps me grow as well.
I will to continue to push myself every day in my studio, always trying improve and be my best artistic self!

Blue

Blue Nude (2021) is acrylic paint on 24″ x 30″ canvas and is part of the Mellifluous series (2021). The series also includes: Passion, Yellow nude and Smolder.

Abstract female figure painted on a textured background. The painting captures emotion by using her pose, color palette, and line work. This is the second piece in the series I’ve been working on where I explore the shapes and line that makeup the female figure.

Every painting in the Mellifluous Series has SOLD! I’m so thrilled the series is going to stay together as a collection and fill up a home. Thank you Michael & Ronnee for making the drive to my studio, and giving my series a home. The smile on my face in the photo does not show my incredible gratefulness and happiness! Many more paintings coming now that the walls of my studio are empty.

Smolder

Smolder (2021) is acrylic paint on 24″ x 32″ canvas and is part of the Mellifluous series (2021). The series also includes: Passion, Yellow nude and Blue nude.

Abstract female figure painting with textured background. The directional lines of the painting produce her curves and pose, and the rough application resembles that of charcoal and ash.

Detail images below show a palate knife texture on the painting.
